ISU Extension & Outreach Week in Greene County APRIL 15-19

Events planned every day

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Week is April 15-19. Iowa’s 100 county Extension offices will host activities throughout the week to thank Iowans for their support of Extension education efforts throughout the state.

“This celebration is one way we show our appreciation for the people who participate in our educational programs, as well as the many volunteers, community leaders, organizations, agencies and other partners who support our work in Greene County,” said Lori Mannel, county Extension director.

A free or low cost educational program is planned in each of the four areas of Extension: 4-H & Youth, Ag & Natural Resources, Human Sciences, Community Development.

Monday, April 15, from 5-7 pm, Adult Career Readiness. Participants will learn about writing a resume and cover letter, expressing themselves correctly, clearly, and effectively in writing. This program will be held at the Greene County Career Academy, Room D-122. Park on the North side and enter through door N5. There is no charge for this program. Please register by April 14. 

Tuesday, April 16, Artificial Intelligence (AI). Discover the world of AI. Understand it, explore it, and learn how AI can benefit your business. The program will be offered at the Greene County Extension office from 9:30 to 11 am and again from 5:30 to 7 pm. There is no charge for this program. Alexis Stevens, ISU farm management specialist, will facilitate this program.

Wednesday, April 17, from 10 am to noon participants will pack a make and take crockpot meal for the busy planting season. Bring your crockpot and assemble the ingredients, take it home, plug it in and dinner is ready. The recipe of the day is Tuscan chicken pasta to serve with garlic bread. The cost for this program $25, and includes all the ingredients. 

Thursday, April 18, from 12 to 1 pm, Financial planning tips. Please join us at the Extension Office for a Lunch and Learn. Bring your own lunch and enjoy this free event. Ryan Stuart, ISU family wellbeing specialist, will lead a discussion on financial planning tips. Some of the topics are tax update, creating financially SMART plans, Social Security and Medicare updates.

Also on Thursday, April 18, from 4 to 5:30 pm, there will be a Business Career Camp for ages fourth through eighth grades. Youth will explore the business career strand. This will be held at the Career Academy.

Friday, April 19, from 9:30 to 10 am is  Java & Juice. Come and have coffee and refreshments with the staff and learn about what ISU Extension does in Greene County.

Also on Friday at 10:15 am we will be doing a ribbon cutting for our new outdoor classroom.

ISU Extension and Outreach is part of the federal Cooperative Extension Service — a network of more than 100 land-grant institutions, including Iowa State University, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture serving communities and counties across the United 

States. Every county in Iowa has an elected extension council that decides how to support ISU Extension and Outreach educational programs at the county level. 

Greene County Extension Council members are Scott Weber, chair; Brent Badger, vice chair; Shari Minnehan, secretary; Pam Olerich, treasurer; Keith Pedersen, treasurer pro tem; Dustin Fouch, Julia Glawe, Tracy Deal and Jeff Lamoureux. 

“ISU Extension and Outreach engages Iowans in solving today’s problems and planning for tomorrow. With the support of our elected council, our educational opportunities for the people of Greene County continue to grow,” Mannel said.
